Learn about ancestral uses for fish skin and the basics of fish skin tanning. Plus, you'll get to create a piece of wearable fish skin art to take home with you!
Are you interested in learning the traditional art of fish skin tanning? Join us as we learn about ancestral uses for fish skin, learn a process for tanning fish skins and make a piece of fish skin art you can wear. This workshop is open to all Alaska Native People and is appropriate for all ages. Due to the contents of the fish skin art kits, they will only be available to participants ages 18 and up; younger participants can benefit from watching and listening. Refreshments will be provided. Registration is required.
This workshop is supported by an individual artist grant from Spokane Arts specifically for building community and sharing traditional arts for Alaska Native People in the Spokane region.
