How to Write a Beautiful List Poem

A fun, generative writing workshop for poets of all abilities.

List poetry, or catalog verse, is a poetic form with a simple premise: a writer composes a list of people, places, images, or any other type of item. Despite their sense of orderliness, list poems are rich with subtext, revealing an underlying narrative or truth. In this workshop, we'll explore the full possibility of these types of poems. We'll respond to writing prompts that help us generate fresh images from our personal lives, and we'll learn how to curate and sequence these images in order to create our very own beautiful list poems.

About the presenter: Elisa Vigil is a writer and musician from Spokane. She is the former poetry editor of Rock & Sling Magazine, and the winner of the 2025 Isabelle Sparks President's Award for Original Poetry (awarded annually by Sigma Tau Delta to an undergraduate student). Her work has appeared in Sonora Review.
