From the Vault: An Archival Poetry Project
Local Poets Respond to the Library's Special Collections

Inland Northwest Special Collection, nxʷyxʷyetkʷ HallLocal poets will share their original poems based on items from the Spokane Public Library's special collections and archives, which are kept in a climate-controlled room called "the vault."
An award-winning group of Inland Northwest poets will share their responses to various archival treasures found within the Spokane Public Library vault. Following the event, poems and archival items will be placed on display on the 3rd Floor of the Central Library for others to read and admire. This event is meant to inspire an unexpected and lyrical conversation between the past and the present.
- Amelia Díaz Ettinger—Los Caprichos by Goya, in particular the images “A caza de dientes” (hunting for teeth) and “Mucho hay que chupar” (much to suck on)
- Asyia Gover—Coyote Stories and Tales of the Okanogans by Mourning Dove
- Tim Greenup—The Nuremberg Chronicles
- Kate Lebo—The Ungrateful Garden and Knock Upon Silence by Carolyn Kizer
- Shann Ray—The Drawings and Engravings of William Blake, particularly the image “The Ancient of Days”
- Laura Read—The Discovery of Witchcraft by Reginald Scot
- Shraya Singh—The Bhagavad Gita (miniature) and The Story of Silk (accordion book)
- Maya Jewell Zeller—The Book of the Dead, papyrus
