A panel on indie publishing children's books, featuring Donell Barlow, Stephaine Courtney, April Rivers Eberhardt, and Jaime Stacy. This panel is part of the first annual Lilac City Book Festival.
Four Spokane children's authors will discuss their pictures books and their writing, editing, and publishing processes. This event is part of the first annual Lilac City Book Festival.
About the presenters:
Donell Barlow is the author of Medicine Tracks: A Memoir, Words Have No Meaning: Poetry and Illustrations, Creature Teacher Yoga, and Bigfoot and Lightning Bug. Barlow's writing is influenced by her Native American background and activism, being of Ottawa and Yurok descent. You can find her books at From Here.
Stephaine Courtney is an award-winning activist and community organizer here in Spokane. She is the CEO and Executive Director of The Shades of Motherhood Network and is a 2024 YWCA Women of Achievement Honoree. She is the curator and creator of the indie published picture book, Our Community: Black Leaders in Spokane.
April Rivers Eberhardt is a celebrated Spokane Public Schools educator and the interim editor of the Black Lens News. She's the author of several picture books, including Curiosity and Tender Head.
Jaime Stacy is an educator in Spokane Public Schools and the Founder and Executive Director of SWAG, Strong Women Achieving Greatness. She is a community advocate and has received numerous awards and recognition for her contributions. Jaime is the author of two children's books (Books that Sing! Wake-Up Melody and Bedtime Melody) and hopes to write more books in the future. Her desire is to always spread love; to be a faithful example of strength, courage, and honor.
The Lilac City Book Festival is a yearly event to support local writers and illustrators of books for children and teenagers. It's organized by Spokane Public Library and presented in partnership with Wishing Tree Books and the local chapter of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
