In this comprehensive workshop, you'll discover the transformative power of kintsugi while enjoying traditional Japanese tea and sweets.
Join us for an immersive exploration of kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with urushi sap, gold, and silver. This workshop combine hands-on experience with cultural insights, sustainability discussions, and culinary elements to create a unique learning experience.
During this workshop, Artist-In-Residence, Darya Pilram will give an introduction to kintsugi philosophy, and the materials used with a demonstration of the techniques and application. Each participant should bring a treasured piece of pottery that is in need of repair. We'll share stories of our pieces and their meaning and discuss the benefits of repair to support the circular economy. Additionally, we'll learn how to evaluate and diagnose a piece for repair - the first step in the kintsugi journey for a piece.
Participants will gain hands-on experience and enjoy a traditional Japanese tea service. We'll explore wabi-sabi philosophy and discuss modern applications of repair and sustainability.
