Spokane Audubon Society board member Bea Harrison will present photos and stories from birding the Texas Gulf Coast, where she grew up and worked in numerous capacities as a conservationist.
SAS board member Bea Harrison will present photos and stories from birding the Texas Gulf Coast where she and her husband Jim (also a SAS board member) grew up and worked for The Nature Conservancy, Smithsonian Institute, Hawk Watch International, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Gulf Coast Observatory, and San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge.
The program covers how accessible and popular the Texas Gulf Coast is for birders from all over the world, with 367 miles of mostly public-owned coastline and hundreds of diverse species of birds. It will focus on five top birding spots – San Bernard NWR, Brazos Bend State Park, Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary near Freeport, Matagorda County and the mouth of the Colorado River where it flows into the Gulf of Mexico, and Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Sanctuary in Port Aransas.
