Join us for a monthly 'salon' centered around the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in the United States. The topic this month is Why Not Capitalism? by Jason Brennan.
Join Spokane Public Library's Current Affairs Specialist, Shane Gronholz, for a monthly 'salon' centered around discussions on what you believe the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in the United States are.
Spokane Civics Salon meets from 2:00-3:30 PM on the last Sunday of every month. Each Salon will be focused on a particular text.
This month's text is a lecture delivered by Jason Brennan at CU Boulder about his book Why Not Capitalism? It's a direct response to G.A. Cohen's book Why Not Socialism?, which we discussed in June.
Jason Brennan is a prominent political philosopher and the Robert J. and Elizabeth Flanagan Family Term Professor and Director at the Georgetown Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics. His research spans democratic theory, ethics, and the philosophy of economics. Brennan is the author of several notable books, including "Why Not Capitalism?" and "Against Democracy". He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Arizona and is known for his thought-provoking work challenging conventional political wisdom.
Join us as we consider what Brennan takes to be capitalism's unique advantages among other economic systems.
