A poetry workshop inspired by the senses, led by poet Sarah Rooney. This event is part of the third annual Inland Northwest Poetry Salon.
Surprise your reader with the unexpected! Using our senses, we will experiment with exploring abstract ways to describe your experiences. Be present with the provided materials to better hone your written descriptions. At the end of this workshop, you will have added a layer of vividness to your poetry and a newfound respect to the way we interact with the word around us.
About the presenter: Sarah Rooney is a nonbinary queer poet who created the “Speakeasy” Open Mic in March 2022. In January 2024, they co-founded Foray for The Arts with Greg Bem. Foray is an ongoing, multidisciplinary event series that travels throughout Spokane. Sarah's first chapbook, Mother Media, was indie published in October 2023. After receiving their MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University in June 2025, they’re working on their second poetry collection. In the meantime, Sarah facilitates poetry workshops, organizes events, and hosts karaoke around town. They’ve been featured at Spokane events like Emerge, Foray, and Terrain. Sarah loves being part of an active, creative community that inspires collaboration, communication, and growth.
