Ekphrasis Writing Workshop
With Artists-In-Residence Christa Mattocks & Linea Jantz
Saturday, June 13
3:00pm - 5:00pm
The Hive
Events room CJoin Christa and Linea for a writing workshop inspired by Spokane’s shrub-steppe landscape! Learn different ekphrasis writing techniques (writing from or about pieces of art).
Come learn about ekphrasis writing and join artists-in-residence, Linea Jantz and Christa Mattocks for a writing workshop using this technique.
Ekphrasis is a literary device—often poetry or prose—that provides a vivid, detailed description of a work of visual art, whether real or imagined. It acts as a "verbal representation of visual representation," allowing writers to interpret, enhance, or engage in a dialogue with the artwork through descriptive, emotional language. Linea will teach about the technique and lead participants in exercises. The artwork that participants will be responding to relates to Christa and Linea's Hive project: all about the plants and animals of the rocky, basaltic shrub-steppe of the Channeled Scablands that make up Spokane's natural landscape.
Everyone welcome - serious writers, beginners, anyone in between, and all ages!
