Develop your long-term relationship with poetry and nature in this writing workshop led by local writer, publisher, arts organizer and activist Greg Bem. An Inland Northwest Poetry Salon event.
In this workshop, we will investigate our historical relationships with the natural world, as a way of creating a foundation for our poetic identity and poetics. Nature poetry often focuses on the present: what we observe and where we find ourselves in nature; however, how does this spirited connection connect to long-term relationships with the world and its many inhabitants? How can we examine nature over longer periods of time through poetry and the act of writing? This workshop will provide portals into this paradigm, raise questions, and seek answers.
About the presenter: Greg Bem (he/him) is a poet, librarian, and labor activist in Spokane, Washington. He co-organizes Foray for The Arts with poet Sarah Rooney, and is the publisher of Carbonation Press. He regularly writes book reviews for places like Rain Taxi, International Examiner, North of Oxford, and Exacting Clam. His experimental sound works can be found under the project name Talus Field.
This workshop is part of the third annual Inland Northwest Poetry Salon.
