Join this hands-on beading workshop with Indigenous artist, Lacey Bacon to learn how to make a necklace using natural dentalium shells, beads, sinew, deer hide.
The Love is Endless Necklace class is an Indigenous based class is open to the Spokane community. In this class the students will learn about Indigenous culture including history, and oral traditions, as well as constructing the necklace with natural materials (dentalium shells, beads, sinew, deer hide). All materials will be provided.
About the instructor: Lacey Bacon (Colville, Couer d'Alene, Shoshone, and Spokane Tribes) works in textiles using natural resources such as shells, beads, and buckskin. Her art allows her to engage with the community and foster indigenous resiliency, particularly with youth. She says, “I have been creating culturally significant, wearable art since I was a little girl. I completed my first fully beaded outfit at the age of 13.” She shares that many Natives are displaced from their tribes and have lost knowledge. “I use my knowledge and classes as a prevention tool for youth. I strive to empower and create identity for Natives in Spokane so they can work on healing and growth. I do this with and through traditional art.” Lacey will be at The Hive from March to August, 2025.
