Join us for an insightful discussion on why every vote matters, who makes the decisions that shape your community, and where to find resources needed to make informed voting choices.
Which elected office has the greatest impact on your daily life - the President of the United States or your local Fire District Commissioner? While presidential elections dominate national headlines, it’s local officials who oversee tax dollars, shape policies, and influence everything from infrastructure to public safety. Understanding the importance of local elections is key to ensuring that your voice is heard in decisions that directly affect your community.
In odd-numbered years, when many local officials are elected, voter turnout tends to decline significantly. In Spokane County, the average voter turnout for general elections over the last four even-numbered years was 73.68%, whereas the average turnout for odd-numbered years was just 40.71%. Fewer than half of voters are engaging in the selection of their local representatives!
Your vote carries more influence than you may realize. So how can you ensure that it truly counts?
Join the Spokane County Elections staff and the League of Women Voters for an insightful discussion on why every vote matters, who makes the decisions that shape your community, and where to find resources needed to make informed voting choices. Bring your questions and civic curiosity. We look forward to an engaging conversation!
