A writing workshop offered by lauded novelist, biographer, memoirist, and educator Michael N. McGregor.
All of us have wonderful stories to tell! And we want others to enjoy them as much as possible, whether we’re writing for publication or for family and friends. This workshop will help you discover the stories of your life, craft them effectively as fiction or nonfiction, and decide which approach is best for each. The instructor has taught creative writing for over 30 years and published hundreds of stories, essays, and memoir pieces in publications large and small. His exercises and tips will give you the confidence and skills you need to offer the best versions of your finest tales to the world.
About the presenter: Michael N. McGregor is the author of three books—a memoir, a novel, and a biography of the poet Robert Lax, which was a finalist for a Washington State Book Award and several other prizes. A graduate of Columbia University’s MFA in Creative Writing program, he helped found the graduate creative writing program at Portland State University, where he taught for 17 years and received numerous awards for his teaching and mentoring. His shorter works have appeared in Tin House, StoryQuarterly, Poetry, Orion, Image, The Seattle Review, Poets & Writers and dozens of other publications. Among his many awards are the Daniel Curley Award for Short Fiction, the Oregon Literary Arts Leslie Bradshaw Fellowship in Nonfiction, and Notable Essay selections in Best American Essays and the Pushcart Prize series. He lives in Seattle.
