Learn how to write humorous books for children. This event is part of the 2nd annual Lilac City Book Festival.
This presentation, led by local writer John Bladek, will cover the basics of writing humor, what kids find funny, and how to add humor in description, dialogue, character, and plot. We'll look at examples from middle grade fiction to show the broad range of what can be funny in kid’s lit.
About the presenter: John Bladek holds a PhD in history and is the author of two middle grade novels, Roll Up the Streets! (Kane Miller) and Lost in Ghostville (Capstone), and the adult novel (with Davonna Juroe) Winterbay Abbey: A Ghost Story. He’s presented multiple workshops on writing at the Spokane County Library writer’s conference on such topics as world-building in fantasy, character arcs, and humor in children’s books. He works as a consultant at the EWU Writers’ Center where he guides students in their writing.
