Spokane Arts Grants Awards (SAGA) recipient Erin Hemenway tells the story of how she fell in love with audiobooks and created one of her own. This event is part of the 2nd annual 'Novel Day.'
During her battle with Breast Cancer, author Erin Hemenway picked up her very first audiobook and rediscovered her passion for reading and writing. After publishing her first book, The Night Before Christmas, which helped her get through chemotherapy, Erin took the long road to publishing her own audiobook. Now she shares her story about the path to publication and how "all reading is reading," while encouraging us to redefine what magic looks like in our own lives.
About the presenter: Erin Hemenway is a Spokane author, multimedia artist, and recipient of a Spokane Arts Grant for her project “Literature Beyond Paper”. She had a wild childhood where she sewed sequined garments for show girls at the MGM Grand in Reno, delivered mail for the Historic Pony Express re-ride in California, and filmed a racing documentary in Mexico. She settled in the Pacific Northwest where she began making independent films and raising two kids. After battling—and beating—breast cancer, Erin transitioned into a full-time writer to keep her sanity. She has written three books and is currently working on a new series about witches, sisters, and the power of finding your own magic.
This event is part of Spokane Public Library's 2nd annual Novel Day. Novel Day is a celebration of the craft of writing novels, featuring workshops and panels presented by some of the most beloved novelists in our region. Writers at all stages of their writing lives, newbies and published writers alike, are welcome to attend.
