The Structure of a Novel
A 'Novel Day' event with Stephanie Oakes
Saturday, November 07
1:15pm - 2:15pm
Liberty Park
Liberty Park EventsAuthor Stephanie Oakes presents a workshop on selecting and implementing the right structure for your novel. This event is part of the 2nd annual 'Novel Day.'
The structure of a novel is one of the most important, yet often overlooked, elements new authors engage with when setting out to write a novel. Linear, non-linear, mixed media, epistolary forms—there are so many ways to structure a novel. Plus, a non-traditional structure can make the whole process a lot more fun. In this Novel Day presentation, we'll discuss the plusses and pitfalls of different novel structures from someone who has tried almost all of them. We'll look at examples and share tips for how to keep it all together.
This event is part of Novel Day. Novel Day is a celebration of the craft of writing novels, featuring workshops and panels presented by some of the most beloved novelists in our region. Writers at all stages of their writing lives, newbies and published writers alike, are welcome to attend.
About the presenter:
Stephanie Oakes is the author of The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly, which was a Morris Award finalist, The Arsonist, which won the Washington State Book Award and was an ALA/YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults pick, and her most recent novel, The Meadows.
