Discover block printing with Artist-In-Residence, Erica Schisler as she guides you through how to carve designs on rubber blocks and make unique prints on paper.
Block printing has been in existence for over 4000 years! The general principles have not changed much but the tools and surfaces available to carve have changed a lot! This workshop, led by The Hive® Artist-In-Residence, Erica Schisler, is designed for beginners with an introduction to the wide world of block printing.
Participants will delve into the fundamentals of block printing using user-friendly rubber carving linoleum blocks, which they will carve and print. The session’s highlight lies in the process: from conceptualizing and designing your stamps to applying water-soluble block printing ink and printing designs onto paper. These soft and pliable rubber blocks are perfect for first-time carvers, making the experience enjoyable and rewarding.
All materials will be provided. Participants need only bring their imagination and some design ideas. While printing inks are water-soluble, please bring an apron or dress in clothes that are okay to get messy.
