With dolls comes stories and each with their own meaning. Create your own Spirit Doll with elements of your choosing. What will they mean to you? What stories will you include?
Dolls have been found in Egyptian tombs dating to as early as the 21st century BC. They have served as toys, art, and symbols in religious and spiritual ceremonies. Some people believe that Spirit Dolls are a vessel for positive energy. Made from various natural materials, Spirit Dolls often have unique symbolic adornments like feathers, beads, or charms, representing different aspects of the human experience.
In this workshop, participants will build their own spirit doll. All materials will be supplied but if you want to bring a scrap of clothing or cloth or jewelry that means something to you to add to your doll, please do so. Before the workshop, think about the spirit you want to imbue your doll with – are they a wood sprite, a solstice doll, Baba Yaga, or a storyteller doll? You can choose the story that is meaningful to you. Anything goes!
Joni Michels, Patty Driscoll, and Barbara Anderson have been sharing a studio at the Hive®. Each of them work on their own art and then collaborate for workshops.
