Learn to fold and build a seven pocket Zhēnxiàn bāo, a fascinating structure with hidden compartments.
The Zhēnxiàn bāo is a centuries-old structure used in China. Though we call it “Chinese thread book” in the West, the name translates to “sewing kit.” Zhēnxiàn bāo was used to store pieces of thread, whether for embroidery or repair, and needles. The book is made of different sizes of flat origami boxes that when arranged and attached reveal hidden compartments. Participants will come away from this workshop knowing how to fold and build the book and customize the boxes for future projects.
All materials will be supplied. The workshop is appropriate for middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults (participants need to be able to follow instructions very well and be able to work on their own without supervision).
